Eight Counts of Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, detectives with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division arrested James Ray Bost of 1022 Peth Road, near Troutman. This arrest came after a lengthy investigation into several damage to property reports made around the 1000 block of Perth Road. 

Since February 2026, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff Office received several reports from motorists who reported their vehicles had been shot with some type of pellet gun while driving in the 1000 block of Perth Road.

As part of the investigation, detectives conducted numerous interviews with residents who live in the area. Based upon information received from these interviews, detectives were able to identify James Bost as a suspect in the case. Detectives conducted an extensive surveillance operation in the area utilizing digital surveillance equipment to aid in the investigation. 

On Saturday May 2, 2026, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received another reported incident from a motorist who stated their vehicle had been hit with an object while driving in the same area. After reviewing several hours of data from Saturday on the surveillance equipment, detectives were able to obtain evidence which determined the pellet rounds fired at the vehicle were fired by James Ray Bost from his driveway at 1022 Perth Road.

With the data recovered, detectives obtained arrest warrants for James Bost along with a search warrant for his residence at 1022 Perth Road.

On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, detectives, along with deputies from the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team, executed the search warrant at the residence. James Ray Bost was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Detectives recovered evidence from the residence, including a BB rifle, along with other weapons capable of firing BBs or pellets along with numerous pellets.

James Bost was charged with Eight Counts of Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Eight Counts of Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property. James Ray Bost appeared before Magistrate T. Thompson who issued a 50,000.00-dollar secured bond on these charges.

Sheriff Campbell stated, “The detectives involved in this case put in a lot of hard work and time to conduct surveillance and utilized the surveillance tools necessary to obtain enough evidence to bring justice to those who had been victimized by Bost. I also want to thank the residents and community members who remained vigilant and continued to communicate with law enforcement throughout this investigation. Their cooperation and willingness to report information played an important role in helping us bring this case to a close.”
