2026 Annual Grants
Idaho Commission on the Arts Announces 2026 Annual Grants
Idaho – From small-town cultural festivals to statewide education partnerships, from community orchestras to rural school band programs, the arts in Idaho are more than amusement: they drive employment, encourage welcoming communities, inspire students, and catalyze connection between people and place. That’s why the Idaho Commission on the Arts (Arts Idaho) is investing nearly $750,000 in grants to 108 arts organizations, schools, and school districts across 31 communities statewide. These funds, matched by local dollars, support programs that ensure Idahoans of all ages and regions have access to arts learning, performances, exhibitions, and cultural traditions.
“The arts enrich daily life in Idaho, sparking creativity in classrooms, inspiring audiences in concert halls, and strengthening bonds in communities large and small,” said Laura Curry, Executive Director of the Idaho Commission on the Arts. “This year’s grants help schools, organizations, and educators expand opportunities for growth and connection. We are grateful to Governor Little and the Idaho Legislature for recognizing that an investment in the arts is an investment in the vitality and prosperity of all Idahoans.”
Arts Education programs are expanding hands-on opportunities for Idaho students. Schools partner with professional teaching artists and arts organizations to provide teacher training and standards-based instruction for PreK–12 students, ensuring that young people in all corners of the state build creativity, critical thinking, and confidence through the arts. Across the state, arts education fuels creativity for the next generation: from Writers at Harriman’s outdoor workshops for young writers, to the Cascade Cultural Arts Center after school art program, and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival’s statewide tours that reach more than 50,000 students each year, Idaho’s youth are developing lifelong skills and connections through the arts.
Idaho’s distinctive cultural identity is celebrated statewide through both cornerstone institutions and innovative local initiatives. In northern Idaho, The Festival at Sandpoint fills summer nights with back-to-back concerts featuring national headliners and regional talent in a spectacular outdoor setting, while in nearby Coeur d’Alene, Emerge nurtures artists with gallery space and classes. In north central Idaho, the Center for Arts & History in Lewiston connects Lewis-Clark State College with the city’s historic downtown, while the Moscow Arts Department’s Paint the Palouse brings together artists in an annual celebration of Palouse-region creativity.
The Treasure Valley offers a full spectrum of performances and festivals, from Boise Contemporary Theater’s new plays, The Cabin’s literary programs, and the Death Rattle Writers Festival, to concerts by the Boise Phil and Opera Idaho.
In central Idaho, the Sun Valley Museum of Art anchors cultural life with year-round exhibitions and events, while the Magic Valley Arts Council brings the community together through Art & Soul of the Magic Valley, the nation’s largest public-voting, cash-awarding art contest. The Idaho State-Civic Symphony, the state’s oldest orchestra, continues its legacy from Pocatello bringing together an ensemble of community musicians, students, and faculty.
Commission Chair Marshall Garrett highlighted the enduring value of the arts:
“Investing in the arts results in benefits beyond dollars. Arts funding multiplies as it flows through our communities, but more importantly, it creates identity and community. It preserves history, builds a sense of place, and fosters new directions. We commend the Governor and Legislature for recognizing the enduring value of the arts.”
The Commission awarded grants in three categories:
- Arts Education Grants support projects that unite best practices in education and the arts.
- Entry Track Grants provide stable support to emerging arts organizations.
- Public Programs in the Arts Grants sustain ongoing programs by Idaho’s professional arts and cultural organizations.
