NIST Diamond Magnetometry Pathfinding Workshop

Magnetometry built on quantum diamond offers a transformative range of sensors that can advance navigation, materials research, and biomedical science, with early-stage commercial products coming online in recent years. Despite these promising advances, there remains a disconnect between commercial diamond materials, established sensor architectures, and emerging technologies with a clear need for metrology to bridge the divide. Moreover, there is a need for government and academic researchers to engage with the private sector to identify routes toward commercial viability of these sensors.
This workshop seeks to connect stakeholders in diamond growth, metrology, and application efforts to drive commercialization of diamond quantum sensing technologies. Participants will engage in workgroups, offering expert perspectives from across the technology landscape, with the goal of identifying pathways toward growing the impact of the US quantum diamond ecosystem. This workshop will culminate in the development of a report summarizing the strategic objectives necessary to enable the development and commercialization of diamond-based magnetometry.
Topics will include:
- Applications of diamond magnetometry
- Alternative schemes for diamond magnetometry
- Diamond growth and processing
- Metrology for diamond magnetometry
- Commercializing diamond magnetometry
