Lawrence-Douglas County MPO Coordinating on Statewide Freight and Rail Plan
The Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization is working with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) to gather community feedback on The Kansas State Freight and Rail Plan. This plan combines the goals of the Kansas Long Range Transportation Plan with freight and rail plan guidance and passenger rail requirements from key federal agencies.
Interested parties can provide feedback directly to the State through their online map. Comments will be collected through May 1st.
Pending stakeholder input, the plan is focused on six goal categories:
- Safety and Security
- Transportation System Management
- Asset Preservation
- Freight and Economic Vitality
- Stewardship
- Workforce
This plan will include guidance on investment of available funds and recommendations related to projects and priorities that will help KDOT meet future freight needs and growth in Kansas.
