A Green Light for Green Button at ConnectivityWeek

Trifecta of Green Button Activities, May 22-24, Santa Clara, Calif.

/EINPresswire.com/ DALLAS, April 11, 2012 -- National Green Button efforts will converge at the 2012 ConnectivityWeek (www.ConnectivityWeek.com), happening from May 22-24, 2012, in Santa Clara, Calif., where software developers, utilities, and nationwide policymakers will gather for a trifecta of Green Button-related activities.

Green Button is a national initiative led by the White House that provides consumer energy data in a standardized form, helping people control their energy consumption and costs. Already adopted by 16 utilities, Green Button standards also catalyze innovation among software developers and innovators, who are actively creating apps that read, analyze, and present valuable energy information to electricity customers.

Only seven short months after former U.S. CTO Aneesh Chopra announced the administration's Green Button initiative at GridWeek 2011, this effort has gained nationwide momentum that will come to a critical juncture at ConnectivityWeek 2012. (see announcement: http://gridweek.com/2011/#video)

"Clasma Events has been at the forefront of Green Button activity since it launched last September," said Anto Budiardjo, President, Clasma Events. "We are thrilled to see so many of the industry's efforts to date come to fruition at ConnectivityWeek this May. If you're a utility that's considering adopting the Green Button standard, or a software developer creating consumer applications, you can't afford to miss this gathering."

A trio of events will demonstrate - and help drive additional - Green Button progress, including:

1. Conclusion of Dept. of Energy 'Apps for Energy' Competition (http://energy.gov/articles/energy-department-launches-apps-energy): The DOE plans to announce winners of the national 'Apps for Energy' competition, which began in early April. The competition aims to foster innovation in software development -- specifically Green Button applications -- that will ultimately help consumers reduce energy costs.

2. Cleanweb Hackathon, a software-coding competition inspired by Green Button: This first-of-a-kind event for ConnectivityWeek will bring software developers and Smart Grid experts together to innovative energy management applications for consumers. The two-day event will kick off Tuesday, May 22, and awards will be presented on Thursday, May 24, at the closing session of ConnectivityWeek.

3. ConnectivityWeek Plug-In: In the second event of its kind since December, the ConnectivityWeek Plug-In will provide the only centralized location where multiple demand-side vendors, electricity suppliers, and energy end-users can unite to present applications of interoperable devices and systems in action - from the meter to residential, commercial, and industrial end users. Green Button will be a focus of the residential Plug-In.

It's not too late to get involved. Visit www.ConnectivityWeek.com for more information on how to participate or sponsor.
