Ill. lt. gov. candidates hold first debate
Associated Press - October 25, 2010 10:54 PM ET CHICAGO (AP) - The two major-party candidates for lieutenant governor have finally met in a face-to-face debate. Democrat Sheila Simon and Republican Jason Plummer disagreed over everything from taxes to the teaching of creationism in a 30-minute debate Monday on WTTW-TV's "Chicago Tonight." Neither Simon nor Plummer appeared to deliver a rhetoric knockout. And neither side seemed to commit obvious gaffs. It marked the first time the two appeared together in a public setting. They've attended the same political events, but those were closed to the media. Simon has criticized Plummer for not showing up at another debate last week at Chicago's WMAQ-TV. Then, Simon and independent candidate Baxter Swilley sparred beside an empty chair placed where Plummer would have been. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
