After a series of recent crimes have been committed on the Trinity College campus, a student rally was held Thursday, March 8, in an effort to raise awareness about the situation and prompt school officials to take action. The rally was organized by dozens of students who wanted to bring attention to the recent mugging and beating of student Chris Kenny, who sustained serious injuries after being beaten by two males and three females on the college campus in early March. Another student named Maria Young was one of the speakers, and shared her story of being robbed at knifepoint just one month before the Kenny incident.

Claire Allman from Manhattan Beach, CA, was one of many students who attended the event, dozens of whom gave their own speeches pertaining to their concerns about the recent rise in crime rates on the Trinity College campus. When asked why she chose to attend the rally, Claire responded that she was "moved to be a part of the cause after realizing how situations like this could affect on-campus safety." She also stated that she believes "organizing rallies and showing the community that we care will hopefully deter other criminals from attempting similar feats, while also motivating school officials to take the necessary precautions to prevent such crimes." Fortunately, it appears that the rally did spark a renewed interest in the school's security, as officials recently added 10 security guards to the night foot-patrol shift, while also installing additional outdoor lighting, and conducting a complete overview of the campus' security system. Given that Trinity College is certainly not notorious for being a crime-ridden school, officials have made it known that they would like to uphold the positive reputation of their institution by any means necessary.

Claire Allman says the rally showed that, although there are some students on campus who contribute to delinquent behavior, a large group have banded together to speak out against the recent wave of crimes that have caused many to fear for their safety. Students showed up to the rally wearing royal blue T-shirts adorned with the words "Rally for Chris Kenny. Fight for What's Right at Trinity College." Some students also carried signs, with one reading "Don't Let This Happen Again." While Claire herself was not too outspoken about her opinion regarding the college's reaction to the crime, she has stated that she is satisfied with the response that both students and staff have facilitated.
