CDA Signs New Contract to Provide Subsurface Data Services for Oil and Gas Explorers

Common Data Access Limited (CDA), a subsidiary of Oil & Gas UK, has today awarded Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS) a new five-year contract to operate the CDA DataStore—a centralised, state-of-the-art on-line application used by oil and gas explorers to source subsurface data gathered from the UK continental shelf (UKCS).

Malcolm Fleming, CDA’s chief executive, said: “Exploration and production companies operating in a mature province like the UKCS need to use their resources in the most efficient way possible and fast access to quality data is therefore crucial to business success.”

The new contract combines the scope of three previous CDA contracts covering the Well DataStore, the Seismic DataStore and the DEAL website to provide additional benefits to users.   It will also secure a nine-month programme which will deliver a step change in data management services to users.

Malcolm Fleming said: “It makes operational and commercial sense to combine the three separate contracts into one and to use this as an opportunity to introduce the improvements our clients are telling us they want to see in our services.”

Gordon Ballard, chairman of Schlumberger Oilfield UK plc, said: “We will work with CDA to deliver world-class data management services for oil companies and other users active on the UKCS.  The services offered by the CDA DataStore allow UK operators and other parties to rapidly and cost-effectively access quality data on UKCS wells, seismic surveys, production licences and infrastructure from anywhere in the world.  We look forward to implementing new service improvements that will help companies reduce development risk and increase their chances of exploration success.”
