SEK 135 million in new support to Ukraine’s civil cybersecurity
SWEDEN, July 7 - Sweden is providing a new contribution of SEK 135 million to Ukraine’s civil cybersecurity. Cyberattacks on civilian infrastructure are an increasing threat in many countries, especially Ukraine. The attacks originate primarily from Russia and are directed at targets such as central government functions and basic civil services for citizens. In 2024, Ukraine was subjected to more than 4 315 cyber incidents – an average of 12 a day.
“Ukraine has shown considerable resilience as Russia has time and again done everything to weaken the country. It’s crucial that Ukraine can continue to provide its citizens with basic social services, access to information and digital services, for example in schools, health and social care. That’s why we’re now strengthening Ukraine’s cybersecurity with a substantial contribution of SEK 135 million. This will make Ukraine more resilient against future attacks,” says Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa.
The new support will be managed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and conducted within the framework of the Tallinn Mechanism, a joint initiative between Sweden, Ukraine, Estonia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The Mechanism seeks to strengthen Ukraine’s civil cybersecurity, increase resilience to cyberattacks and protect its critical and civil infrastructure through coordinated international development assistance.
Sweden and France jointly took over the chairmanship of the Mechanism in Kyiv in April 2025, which they will continue into the second half of this year.
