Senate Confirms Public Safety Commission Chairman

AUSTIN – Today the state senate reconfirmed Chairman Steven P. Mach to the Public Safety Commission (PSC).

The PSC oversees the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Its five members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the state senate for staggered, six-year terms. Current members include Nelda Luce Blair, Larry B. Long, Steve H. Stodghill and Dale Wainwright.

“I am humbled to have been reappointed by Governor Greg Abbott and confirmed by the Senate to serve another term. Our state’s leaders have made it clear that public safety is their number one priority, and I’m fortunate to work alongside fellow commissioners who understand there is no greater responsibility of government than protecting its citizens,” said Chairman Mach. “As our population continues to grow thanks to innovative businesses located here and our strong workforce, so will the challenges we face to protect and serve Texas. From securing our southern border as part of Operation Lone Star, expanding driver license services and so much more – I look forward to overcoming these challenges with the men and women of DPS, and I know they are up to the task.”

Mach has served on the PSC since November 2013 and was named Chairman by Governor Abbott in March 2017.

Mach, a fourth generation Houstonian, is the Vice President and CFO of Mach Industrial Group, LP. He has served as a trustee of his alma mater, Trinity University, since 2007. In his role as Chairman of the Public Safety Commission, he also serves as a statutory member of the Texas Racing Commission. Mach serves on the boards of The Kinkaid School, the Houston Symphony, the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Harris County Sheriff's Office Foundation. An Eagle Scout, he was a 2019 recipient of the National Eagle Scout Association Outstanding Eagle Scout Award, and also completed Scouting's Wood Badge leadership program.

In 2017, Mach was recognized by Crime Stoppers of Houston as the recipient of the Leiv Platou Award, which is given to a citizen who has made a significant contribution to public safety through volunteerism in the community.
