Workshop on Standards for Robot Absolute Accuracy and Performance Assessment

This workshop aims to foster collaboration and innovation on the topic of absolute accuracy and performance assessment for industrial robots. As a part of fostering these collaborations, this workshop hopes to identify 1) current/future applications of industrial robots in which absolute accuracy impacts the application efficacy; 2) current methodologies used to assess robot performance, including absolute accuracy; 3) challenges and potential solutions; 4) possibility to adopt new technologies in sensors, measurement instruments, and algorithms (e.g. AI) in robot absolute accuracy and performance assessment.
The need for the workshop arises from the recognition that industrial robots are increasingly being used in direct manufacturing tasks (e.g., milling, drilling, 3D printing) and manipulation tasks in which accurate and complex 6-axis motion are required, and the use of touch-up points are infeasible. Discussions in this workshop will be used as a launching point for establishing a committee to create new standards that support robot performance assessment. People from industry (e.g., end users, robot integrators, robot manufacturers), government, and academia are invited to contribute to this topic. New standards will play a critical role in helping manufacturing end users, systems integrators, and developers agree on how to specify and assess the absolute accuracy of the robots, resulting in improved the efficacy and robustness of robotic systems.
