Senator Pia Cayetano Commends Cebu Councilors' Role in Community Development
CEBU CITY - Senator Pia S. Cayetano met with around 300 councilors from across Cebu Province on November 28, during the 2024 Year-End Assembly of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) - Cebu Provincial Federation.
She emphasized the crucial role of local legislators in shaping policies that directly affect communities.
"In all the issues I faced in the Senate, I always say, unsa ang effect sa mga barangay?" Cayetano shared, reminding the councilors to always prioritize public welfare in their decision-making.
Cayetano also underlined how local legislators are often the first point of contact for constituents.
"From councilors to mayors to senators, our constituents come to us for medical assistance," she said, acknowledging the shared responsibility of public servants in addressing healthcare needs,
She noted how the Sin Tax Law, which she authored, has generated billions in funding for PhilHealth and the Department of Health, though challenges still remain from access to out of pocket expenses.
The Senator added that her experience working with local government leaders has helped shape her understanding of grassroots needs.
