Amarillo, TX — A Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad worker was killed Monday morning, January 9, 2011, in a railroad accident in North Amarillo. The work-related accident occurred around 11:00 a.m., near 103 S. Williams, reported 12NewsNow.com.

Amarillo Police reported that the BNSF worker was struck by a grinder, or otherwise known as a maintenance car, which pushed him to the ground and underneath it. The rail car was reportedly moving at a very low rate of speed when it hit the worker.

Responding emergency crews went underneath the train and determined that the worker had died.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time, but he is said to be a white male in his 50s.

The victim reportedly mainly sustained internal injuries.

Amarillo Police aren’t expected to file any criminal charges at this time, but BNSF is continuing to investigate the fatal work-related accident.
