Denton, TX — A forklift accident claimed the life of a worker Friday morning, December 9, 2011, when the piece of machinery overturned at a Denton workplace. The fatal work-related accident occurred around 7:20 a.m. at a business at the corner of Mayhill Road and McKinney Street, reported the Denton Record Chronicle.
According to reports, the worker operating the forklift had dropped off a pallet in the parking lot of the business, and was backing away when a wheel got stuck in a pothole.
As the operator tried removing the forklift’s wheel out of the pothole, he raised the machine’s forks, which caused the forklift’s weight to shift and topple over.
The worker tried to jump from the forklift, but he got caught underneath it.
The man, who remains unidentified, was killed in the accident.
Investigations into the forklift accident are underway. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to launch an investigation as well.
