AJC Appoints Representative in São Paulo, Brazil
December 7, 2011 – New York – AJC, the premier global Jewish advocacy organization, has appointed a representative in São Paulo, Brazil. This marks the ninth overseas post for AJC, in addition to 31 international partnerships with Jewish groups.
“We greatly value the economic and strategic importance of Latin America, and Brazil in particular, as an emerging regional and global power,” said Dina Siegel Vann, Director of AJC’s Washington-and Miami-based Latino and Latin American Institute. “Our representative will help further strengthen AJC’s partnership with the vibrant São Paulo Jewish community, and continue addressing jointly the most pressing issues of Jewish advocacy regionally and internationally.”
Muriel Asseraf is AJC's new representative in São Paulo. A French citizen and graduate of Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, she previously worked as a European and Arab affairs specialist for AJC in Washington, DC. "I look forward to returning to the AJC family and strengthening the mutually enriching ties between AJC and the São Paulo Jewish community,” Asseraf said.
AJC's other posts today around the globe are in Belgium, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Southeast Asia and Switzerland.
“The Jewish Federation of São Paulo considers AJC a strategic partner, fundamental to supporting its progress towards a higher level of Jewish advocacy,” said Mario Fleck, chair of the São Paulo Jewish Federation.
Fleck attended AJC’s Strategic Forum for Leaders of Latin American and Spanish Jewish Communities in Miami last week. The annual conference, hosted by AJC’s Latino and Latin American Institute, draws dozens of Jewish leaders from Latin America and Spain. Last March, an AJC leadership delegation visited São Paulo and Brasilia. Fleck is also a member of the Institute’s Board of Trustees.
