The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Division of Student Life and Wellbeing has announced that Nick Oegema will serve as director of UNO's Accessibility Services Center; effective March 1.

Oegema has been in higher education for over 10 years, half of them at UNO. He has served as the associate director of ASC since 2022. In his new role, he will lead ASC's efforts to collaborate with students, administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure access to reasonable and appropriate student disability accommodations. Oegema is focused on creating a fully accessible, inclusive experience for student learning, campus engagement, and residential life. He serves on the UNO Care Team and is active in the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) which is the premier national and regional professional organization for disability resource professionals.

He comes to his new role with experiences that make him particularly relatable to a diverse student population. Once a college dropout, Oegema worked to complete his bachelor's degree in secondary social science and a master's in education administration. He also shares openly that he has a formal diagnosis of ADHD which deepens his commitment to the students ASC serves. He is both a first-generation immigrant (to Canada) and an immigrant (to the U.S.). He is happily married to his wife, Nikki, and they enjoy relaxing and hanging out with their three cats. He is currently dabbling in hydroponic gardening.
