Reach tween readers with YALSA's graphic novels webinar

CHICAGO —  Tween readers have shown a healthy appetite for graphic novels, but finding age-appropriate materials for middle schoolers can be difficult! Find out how you can build a great graphic novel collection for your middle grade readers in YALSA’s Dec. 15 webinar, “Graphic Novels and Teen Readers,” presented by Robin Brenner.

Brenner will discuss company age ratings and how the savvy librarian can demystify  the variety of ratings that exist. She will also touch on where to shelve graphic novels in a library’s collection. Participants will receive a core list of available tween graphic novels as well as some upcoming titles.

Brenner is the teen librarian at the Brookline Public Library in Massachusetts and is a past chair of YALSA’s Great Graphic Novels for Teens Selection List Committee.

This webinar will address three areas of the YALSA Competencies:  Knowledge of Client Group, Knowledge of Materials and Access to Information.

Registration is now open at www.ala.org/yalsa/webinars. Webinars cost $29 for students, $39 for individual YALSA members, $49 for all other individuals and $195 for groups (all participants watch in the same location). Registration is open at www.ala.org/yalsa/webinars. Questions can be sent to Eve Gaus, YALSA’s program officer for continuing education, at egaus@ala.org or 1 (800) 545-2433, ext. 5293.
