WindMade Launches Standard for New Label

WindMade has released a technical standard for a consumer label for companies and organizations that buy wind power and other renewable energy. The WindMade standard allows organizations to communicate the share of wind power and other renewable resources within their electricity consumption. The WindMade Standard specifies requirements for the WindMade label, requiring participating companies to supply a minimum of 25 percent of their electricity usage from wind power. Wind energy can be acquired through a company-owned wind power generation facility, a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for wind power, or the purchase of WindMade approved renewable energy credits (RECs).

The UN Global Compact will host a launch event in New York on November 18th, where WindMade certified organizations and brands will be unveiled.
