In-Store Home Furnishing Sales Decrease, Online Sales Skyrocket
More Working Mothers Mean Less Traffic in Stores and More Online
/EINPresswire.com/ Philadelphia, PA - November 7, 2011 -- High-end home furnishing retail sales have fallen over the past few years, yet online sales are up.
The economy has not been kind to the home furnishing industry overall. High-end sales in this category were down by 5% in Q4 2010, according to American Express Business Insights and retailers are bracing for Q4 2011.
At the same time online home accent companies are enjoying an increase in sales. "September was our best month yet" Joe Friedrich said of his online company Cessori.com "We experienced a significant increase in sales, and I expect it to continue through Q4 2011."
The most recent U.S. Congress' Joint Economic Committee Report may be able to make sense of this discrepancy. The report highlights an increase of mothers working or actively seeking work over a two year period.
With an estimated 341,600 more women working, there is less time to spend in-stores and therefore a higher propensity to shop online.
"Our site traffic spikes in the evening between 8:00 and 10:00 pm EST. I can only assume that many of our customers are shopping after their kids are in bed." Joe Friedrich said.
www.Cessori.com is the first trade-only online marketplace. It offers home accessories to design professionals and their clients at 25%-55% off retail prices.
