Registration opens for YALSA’s Teen Tech Week™

2012 theme is Geek Out @ your library^®

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), launched its Teen Tech Week 2012 website at www.ala.org/teentechweek, opening registration and offering resources for the annual celebration of technology and digital literacy at the library.

Teen Tech Week is March 4-10, 2012, with a theme of Geek Out @ your library, encouraging teens to take advantage of the many technologies available to them, free of charge, at their libraries. This year’s theme encourages libraries to throw open their physical and virtual doors to teens and showcase the outstanding technology they offer, from services such as online homework help and digital literacy-focused programs to resources like e-books, movies, music, audiobooks, databases and more.

Visitors to the site can access this year’s theme logo by registering, download publicity tools and a planning toolkit and add their own questions and ideas to the interactive site. Official products for Teen Tech Week, including digital downloads, bookmarks and posters, are available at the ALA Store, www.alastore.ala.org/ttw12.

Teen Tech Week is a national initiative sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association and is aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries such as DVDs, databases, audiobooks and video games.
