REDMOND, WA, USA, May 31, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ -- Alyssa Gohra of Mechanicville, New York is the winning recipient of the 2023 EBCI National HOPE Award, a Disease Education, Awareness & Outreach Campaign/Initiative.

Alyssa, 21, discovered she had a brain tumor in November 2022, and her brain surgery took place that December right before Christmas, an operation that lasted 8 hours. “Nobody can prepare you for what comes post-surgery,” she wrote.

She learned her brain tumor was cancerous and she is fighting her disease with grace and resilience. “I knew one day I would feel better. I knew my pain wouldn’t last forever, the light was shining through more and more, each setback proved that. This may have changed my life, but looking back I am so glad it gave me a tremendous amount of strength, brought me closer to my family, and made me look at life differently. This was my second chance at life.”

She also predicts “One day we will find a cure. I’m only 21 and I will never stop having HOPE.”

EBCI CEO, President & Board Chair, Dellann Elliott Mydland, predicts Alyssa will make a lasting difference for others by sharing her story. “The End Brain Cancer Initiative and I want to thank Alyssa so much for reaching out to us. You will make a tremendous difference and will inspire others who are fighting Glioblastoma.” Alyssa says her mom thinks “everything was meant to be. As terrible as it can be, I do believe everything happens for a reason, even to just help one person. If anyone can feel better, that’s what I want.”

Alyssa’s award was announced and presented at EBCI’s “Know All Your Treatment Options” online Disease Education Meeting/Event last Friday. The National HOPE Award, a Disease Education, Awareness & Outreach Campaign/Initiative is made possible by EBCI’s long time Presenting Sponsor for this Campaign/Initiative, Novocure. This effort is also supported by IMVAX, Whim Social, Great Purpose Productions and COX Media.

The idea behind this award is to present it to a patient that INSPIRES others as well as EBCI by the way that they are living their life with their disease and HOW they are helping others. Alyssa will serve as a volunteer spokesperson for EBCI and use her voice to help others coping with brain cancer.
