YALSA sponsors Easterwood as 2012 Emerging Leader

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), chose Lori Easterwood,  programming supervisor at the Sacramento (Calif.) Public Library, as its representative for the 2012 ALA Emerging Leaders program. She will receive funding from YALSA to attend the 2012 ALA Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference.

It is a tremendous honor to be selected for the Emerging Leaders program, and particularly meaningful to be sponsored by YALSA.  This program will enable me to make connections with librarians across the country and truly become involved in our professional organizations for the first time,” Easterwood said. “This opportunity will allow me to learn from the larger group of librarians committed to providing innovative programming and services and join them in helping promote the value and necessity of the library. “

The Emerging Leaders program enables newer librarians from across the country to participate in workgroups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA's structure and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. Emerging Leaders receive up to $1,000 each to participate in the Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference, and each participant is expected to provide years of service to ALA or one of its units.

YALSA is pleased to be able to support the Emerging Leaders program as a way to build for our future,” said YALSA President Sarah Flowers. “It has been a pleasure to watch YALSA's previous Emerging Leaders as they begin taking leadership roles in the association, and I look forward to working with Lori over the coming years.”

For more than 50 years, YALSA has been the world leader in selecting books, videos, and audiobooks for teens.  For more information about YALSA or for lists of recommended reading, viewing and listening, go to www.ala.org/yalsa/booklists, or contact the YALSA office by phone, (800) 545-2433, ext. 4390; or e-mail: yalsa@ala.org.
