Sarah Houghton to faciliate new ALA TechSource Workshop on e-books and access

CHICAGO - ALA TechSource announces an exciting new workshop, E-Books and Access: Upholding Library Values with Sarah Houghton.

As more e-reader owning patrons look to borrow e-books from your library, you face a mind-numbing array of business models, licensing terms, restrictions and enforcement practices.  Co-writer of the “eBook User’s Bill of Rights,” Sara Houghton keeps a close eye on the fine print. In this two-part workshop, she will help you navigate through e-book acquisition and collection development with library values as your compass. 

Topics Include:

  • Review of the various for-profit, non-profit and free sources for e-books
  • Critical licensing terms to consider when acquiring e-books
  • The evolving notion of the e-book
  • How library e-book services can be guided by library values

Registration for this ALA TechSource Workshop is available on the ALA Store. You can purchase registration at both individual and group rates. The workshop consists of two 90-minute sessions that take place at 2 p.m. EST/1 p.m. CST/12 p.m. MST/11 a.m. PST on Wednesdays, Dec. 13th and 20th, 2011.
