Japanese entrepreneurs invest in Surkhandarya region
UZBEKISTAN, March 31 - The delegation of the Hokimiyat of Surkhandarya region and a group of entrepreneurs are visiting Japan and holding presentations on the economic potential, investment and tourism opportunities of the region, discussing issues of attracting foreign investment and increasing exports.

Members of the delegation led by the First Deputy Hokim of the region for financial and economic issues and poverty reduction Anvar Oripov at a meeting with representatives of Japan Conservation Engineers & Co., Ltd agreed to implement projects for the prevention of soil salinization in Surkhandarya region and the development of saline lands at the expense of a grant from JICA.
An agreement was signed with Nippon Investment Operating Corporation (NIOC) on the implementation of an investment project for processing talc in Surkhandarya region and exporting products to Japan. The cost of the project is $2 million.
Representatives of the Regional Hokimiyat and business circles held a workshop at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Japan, which was attended by specialists from 20 well-known Japanese companies and entrepreneurs. Talks were held with officials of companies interested in the production of industrial products, the provision of tourism services, and the export of fruits and vegetables. Contracts for $12 million were signed.
A Memorandum of Cooperation was also signed, within the framework of which it is planned to organize Uzbekistan – Japan Technological University in Termez and train students in economics, agriculture, medicine and nursing, as well as hotel management and automotive industry. As part of the project, it is planned to study the Japanese language.
At a meeting with JICA leadership, the parties discussed projects implemented in the south of the region with the support of JICA.
At a meeting in Hokkaido Prefecture, an agreement was reached on cooperation in trade, economic, investment, agricultural, cultural fields, as well as in labor resources between Surkhandarya region and Hokkaido prefecture.
