UZBEKISTAN, November 15 - The Minister of Innovative Development met with the leaders of the Better Cotton Initiative

On November 15, the Minister of Innovative Development Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov hosted the CEO of the non-profit organization Better Cotton Initiative Alan McClain and the manager Rachel Beckett.

The Better Cotton Initiative is an organization that promotes the best standards for cotton cultivation around the world. The organization educates farmers on management of water and land resources, maintaining soil fertility, acoiding the harmful effects of plant protection products, maintaining the quality of cotton fiber, ensuring labor safety, using efficient irrigation methods, and reducing the use of chemical fertilizers. Their work has significantly reduced water use by farmers in Pakistan and India.

During the meeting, the Minister of Innovative Development, Academician Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov spoke about the work carried out by the Council for Cotton Growing under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The members of the Cotton Council are scientists, researchers, specialists and experts from the industry's leading research centers. A number of works are being carried out on the selection of varieties, fertilizers, irrigation, pest control, organization of the reception and processing of raw cotton. The work of the council is aimed at increasing exports and incomes in the cotton and textile sector by creating scientific and innovative seed production, breeding varieties, tillage, including fertilizers and irrigation.

Alan McClain,  CEO of the Better Cotton Initiative, said he was ready to implement international standards for cotton clusters in Uzbekistan and make recommendations to farmers and cotton clusters in cooperation with the Cotton Council. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to consider the possibility of organizing seminars for farmers and cotton specialists.
