Governor Wolf Announces $3 Million For Roadway Improvements Project on Route 30 in Chester County That Will Create Nearly 200 Total Jobs

Governor Tom Wolf today announced the approval of $3 million in new funding to East Whiteland Township for transportation infrastructure improvements along Route 30 in Chester County.

“These much-needed improvements will boost the local economy by allowing easier access to local businesses,” said Gov. Wolf. “This is the kind of investment that will help businesses in the area continue to grow and thrive.”

East Whiteland Township was approved for up to $3 million in Transportation Infrastructure Investment Funds (TIIF) to assist with the design and construction costs for improvements along Route 30.

The project will provide access to neighborhoods, Immaculata University, the Chester Valley Trail, and other large employers in the township. It will also allow two lanes in each direction, with a center turning lane, improved intersections, dedicated bike lanes, separated sidewalks and improved bus stops.

The project is expected to create 141 direct jobs and support an additional 55 indirect jobs in the local economy for Chester County.

“Our 21st century economy is global, but our local PA-06 economy still depends on structurally sound roads and bridges,” said Rep. Chrissy Houlahan. “As an entrepreneur and as an engineer specializing in supply chain management, I know how important it is to our small business community to prioritize roadway projects such as the Route 30 expansion. These long overdue improvements will prioritize the safety of commuters, delivery trucks, and cyclists and increase the speed of access to area businesses. I’m thankful for Governor Wolf and our Chester County partners for their support of this project.”

The TIIF program is administered in cooperation with DCED and PennDOT.
