LOVE BITES: A Banned Erotica Showcase at The Comedy Store

Burlesque royalty La Cholita, Kitten Natividad, and Penny Starr, Jr., join cast. Jerry Stahl to host.

/EINPresswire.com/ Los Angeles, California: Just what the Sunset Strip needs: more actors, sex, and...literature? Finishing off a series of Banned Books Week events, PEN Center USA and Playboy will present LOVE BITES: A BANNED EROTICA SHOWCASE at The Comedy Store on September 30, 2011. Doors for the event will open at 7PM. Book Soup will be on hand selling the featured erotica titles. Proceeds from the event will benefit PEN Center USA.

Jerry Stahl will host the event. Stahl—novelist, journalist, and screenwriter—is the author of six books, including Permanent Midnight (made into a movie with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson), and I, Fatty (optioned by Johnny Depp). Most recently, he has been working on the HBO movie Hemingway & Gellhorn, which began shooting in late February 2011, and the film adaptation of his latest novel, Pain Killers.

Lucy Engelman, Tom Frank (Dexter), Joseph O'Malley (What's Wrong With Angry?), Joe Pistone (The Black Donnellys), Leslie Schott (Nobody Walks, forthcoming), Joe Tower, and Elvy Yost (The Office, Mildred Pierce) will perform selections from Story of O, Tropic of Cancer, The Awakening, Delta of Venus, Lady Chatterley's Lover, Madame Bovary, and Lolita.

La Cholita, the "Latina Queen of Burlesque," is known for her award-winning performances and elaborate costumes. She has performed across the United States and has dazzled audiences internationally with her explosive energy and dynamic dance moves. La Cholita's awards include the coveted "Miss Viva Las Vegas" title. La Cholita is currently the spokesmodel for BORDELLO, the world's first burlesque-inspired shoe line. Her voluptuous curves have been featured in countless magazines, films, and television shows.

Kitten Natividad was born in Juarez Chiguagua, Mexico, and raised in El Paso, TX. Beginning her career as a nude dancer, she went on to win the Miss Nude Universe in both 1973 and 1974. Performing as Kitten Natividad, she has travelled the world, appearing in numerous magazines and films.

LA Weekly called Penny Starr, Jr., "a delightful sexpot." She is the granddaughter of Philadelphia burlesque legend Penny Starr. In 2004, Penny Starr, Jr., became the first runner-up at the annual Miss Exotic Word Burlesque competition. She is the director of the documentary The Velvet Hammer Burlesque; founder of All-Star Burlesque Classes; and producer and director of Los Angeles' own high-fallutin', low brow variety show, Victory Variety Hour at Skinny's Lounge.

PEN Center USA, a literary nonprofit based in Beverly Hills, has a membership of more than 600 professional writers.
