Six Enforcement Orders Served In August 2011

Friday, 9 September 2011

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today reported that five Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order were served on food businesses during the month of August for breaches in food safety legislation, pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998 and the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010.  The Enforcement Orders were issued by environmental health officers (EHOs) in the HSE West Region; the HSE Dublin North East Region and the HSE Dublin Mid Leinster Region.

Closure Orders were served on:

  • Willow Tree Chinese Takeaway, Main Street, Moville, Donegal
  • Oscar Taylor Restaurant, Island View Hotel, Coast Road, Malahide, County Dublin
  • Macaris, 112 Main Street, Bray , Wicklow
  • Bombay Spice, 404 South Circular Road, Dublin 8
  • Arklow Kebab House, 84 Lower Main Street, Arklow, Co. Wicklow

A Prohibition Order was served on:

  • M&B Catering, Clonshaugh Industrial Estate, Dublin 17

Commenting Prof Alan Reilly, Chief Executive, FSAI, stated that it was disappointing to see the number of enforcement orders served in August double the numbers that were served on food businesses for July.

“Most food businesses are committed to high standards for the health of their customers and the good of their business.  However, we urge food businesses to make sure that there is a food safety management system in place and that it is consulted on a regular basis and updated where necessary.  The onus is on each individual food business to ensure that all staff handling and preparing food are up to date on best safety and hygiene practices.  It is a legal requirement that all staff handling food are supervised and/or trained in food hygiene commensurate with their responsibilities.  If any food business operator is unsure of what is required of them by law, they can contact our advice line (1890 336677), visit our facebook page or indeed visit our website www.fsai.ie,” Prof Reilly states.

Closure Orders and Improvement Orders will remain listed on the website for a period of three months from the date of when a premises is adjudged to have corrected its food safety issue, with Prohibition Orders being listed for a period of one month.
