WINNIPEG, Manitoba– Cargill announced today that it will be closing its crop inputs facility in Grimshaw, Alberta, effective July 31, 2011.

“Our facility in Grimshaw has become an aging asset and as Cargill continues to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining safe, efficient and cost effective networks of farm service centres across Canada, we could no longer justify keeping this facility operational,” said Mike Witkowicz, Cargill Farm Service Group Manager.

To better serve customers in the Grimshaw area, Cargill recently completed upgrades at its nearby Fairview fertilizer facility and plans to build a state-of-the-art distribution centre in McLennan. The centre will include a new 28,000 metric tonne (MT) grain facility, which will be able to load rail cars at a rate of 50,000 bushels per hour; a crop inputs distribution centre, including a 5,000 sq foot chemical and seed shed; a 240 MT fertilizer blending tower; a 13,000 MT fertilizer shed- making it the largest in the Peace River area- and two 50 MT bins for straight product loading.  The fertilizer distribution and blending system will allow Cargill to load out around 8 Super B loads per hour.

For all chemical needs, Cargill will continue to offer their valued customers direct-to-farm services or alternatively, pick-up services can be arranged out of Cargill’s Manning, Fairview or McLennan facilities.
