New Interagency Certification Tag for Imported Seed

OTTAWA, July 19, 2011: A new interagency certification tag for imported seed
is now available from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The new tag
indicates that the imported seed meets the Certified seed requirements of the
CFIA .

The CFIA is a
member of the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies (AOSCA). As
such, the CFIA
participates with other international official seed certifying agencies in
interagency certification and confers the Canada pedigreed grade name on the
tag. The new tag is for seed belonging to the Certified class and corresponds
to the blue colour associated with Certified seed as per AOSCA ’s
labelling requirements.

As of January 1, 2013, all imported seed labelled with a Canada Certified
grade name will require the new blue tag. Until that time, importers will be
allowed to use their current white interagency tag or the new blue interagency
tag. Foundation and Registered classes of seed will continue to use the white
interagency tag after January 1, 2013.

The new blue interagency certification tags are now available through local CFIA offices .
