Bachmann Statement Regarding Libya Votes

Today, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement regarding her votes in the House of Representatives on Libya:

"Today I voted against authorizing U.S. action in Libya and against a measure that would merely limit funding, not cut off funding, for our involvement in the North African nation. For any conflict, there must be a clear U.S. interest and the goal of the mission must be laid out.

"President Obama has failed to articulate our goals and strategies or even provide a vital national interest in Libya. This is another example of the Obama Administration ‘leading from behind’ as demonstrated by the President consulting with the French, the UN, NATO, and others, but not once consulting with Congress.

"Our mission is so murky that we are still unsure of the factions we are supporting in Libya through our actions. If a new regime emerges and it support terrorists, the results will be devastating for the national security interests of the United States.

"There was an opportunity today to limit funding to a Libyan operation, but I could not support it because it does not go far enough. Funds must be fully cut off to the President’s involvement in Libya."
