Google Signs PPA for 100.8 MW Oklahoma Wind

Google signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for wind energy from a 100.8 megawatt facility in Oklahoma set to open in late 2011. Google will apply the power to its Mayes County, Oklahoma data center, which is expected to be fully operational in 2011.

Google will purchase the energy and renewable energy certificates (RECs) from NextEra Energy Resources, retain the RECs and then sell the power back to the grid at the local, wholesale price.

The purchase is the second by Google Energy, LLC, an entity formed in December 2009 to allow the company to procure large volumes of renewable energy by participating in the wholesale market.
