Have you ever been so deep into a game of Mass Effect that you forgot you were playing a game? Well we’re pleased to tell you that EA is about to take that sensation to the next level.

Our BioWare studio announced today that they’ve inked a deal with FUNimation Entertainment, the leading distributor of Japanese animation in North America, to create an anime feature film adapted from Mass Effect.

Tokyo-based production company T.O Entertainment will co-produce. Based on the Mass Effect universe, the movie will tell the tale of an epic science fiction adventure set in a vast universe filled with dangerous alien life and mysterious, uncharted planets.

"Over the last few years, we have revealed different pieces of the Mass Effect world through different media. Extending the story through an anime medium is another amazing opportunity for us,” said Casey Hudson, Executive Producer for the Mass Effect series.

We’re told that production of the movie has already begun and the release is scheduled for the summer of 2012, so you’ve got plenty of time to grab some popcorn.
