Spend The Day In Haymarket

Haymarket Earth Day 2011 & Spring Festival - April 16, 10AM - 3PM

Celebrating The Earth - Street Festival Style - In Support of SMA Research

Haymarket, Virginia - April 4, 2011 -- Parade, crafts, earth friendly activities, battery recycling by Interstate All Battery, electronic recycling by Best Buy, & paper shredding by Cintas, vendor booths, food court and more… What else could you ask for to make a great Haymarket Earth Day & Spring Festival Celebration? How about adding a treasure hunt, music, amusements, 2 live bands and entertainers! There will even be 3 miniature horses in the parade and a family of Alpacas visiting Arthurs Court Pet Bakery & Boutique. This year the Parade's very special Grand Marshall is young Lucas Clark, a Haymarket child, who suffers from SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). "We are very pleased to have Lucas as our Grand Marshall", said Pam Stutz, Mayor of Haymarket. "In this way we are able to raise awareness of SMA and the ongoing need for SMA research and research funding." ( See www.fightsma.org )

This year's Earth Day and Spring Festival Celebration is being presented by The Fauquier Bank, and also in part by Wegmans. Recycling activities will be hosted by The Fauquier Bank at its Washington St. office in Haymarket.

The one half square mile town of Haymarket, Virginia bursts forth in the Spring of every year in celebration of the Earth. The main street is closed to traffic and following a small country style parade, town residents and visitors alike can walk down the center of Washington St. enjoying good food, crafts, music, friendly vendors and the company of good neighbors.

Members of Haymarket's Town Council actively participate, by walking through town and on Rte 15, cleaning the streets and picking up any discarded items. This activity has become a traditional part of Haymarket's Earth Day Celebration.

"Earth Day is one of those great events where good work is done, and at the same time we are able to offer a small town celebration in a family friendly atmosphere.." says Sherrie Wilson, Deputy Town Clerk of Haymarket. Town Clerk Jen Preli adds "This year we are particularly pleased to be able to raise funds for the Clark family in their difficult battle against SMA."

This year's celebration will include amusements for children and teens ($1 to $3), and plenty of good Haymarket eats and specialty booths in the spirit of camaraderie and good neighborhood. Music will be provided by Doug Parks & The Lonewolves, as well as Emotions, recent winner of Battlefield High School's Battle of the Bands.

Interested vendors should contact Kim Kennedy Ingalls (see below) or visit www.townofhaymarket.org.

"I want to thank all of the volunteers who make this possible each year" said Mayor Pam Stutz. "We look forward to a great day and are pleased to welcome residents and visitors alike."
