Irvine Unified to Implement 2 MW Multi-School Solar Program
Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) announced a multi-school plan to install 2 megawatts of solar panels and generate 25-60 percent of each site's electricity demand. SPG Solar and SunEdison will install more than 7,300 solar panels at 16 IUSD sites and are expecting to generate over 2.9 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually; more than 51 million kWh over 20 years.
Under the terms of deal, IUSD will incur no upfront costs. SunEdison will finance, build, operate and maintain the systems, enabling the company to take advantage of tax credits that public agencies cannot leverage. In turn, IUSD will purchase energy at a reduced rate via a 20-year power purchase agreement.
