PotashCorp Helps Budding Entrepreneurs Turn Lemons into Lemonade

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) today announced a $25,000
sponsorship to present Saskatchewan and Canada’s first “Lemonade Day” – a program that teaches elementary school students the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. Rhonda Speiss, Manager of Corporate Philanthropy for PotashCorp, made the announcement from PotashCorp Centre at the Edwards School of Business on the University of Saskatchewan campus.

“PotashCorp is pleased to join the Wilson Centre in introducing this fun and innovative program to Saskatchewan and Canada,” said Speiss. “Growing strong communities starts with giving young people the tools and knowledge they need to lead healthy and productive lives. PotashCorp Lemonade Day Saskatchewan promises to do this, and inspire a new generation of Saskatchewan entrepreneurs.”

Lemonade Day was first launched in 2007 in Houston, Texas and has grown in participants and popularity ever since. Through the program, participating kids set-up their own lemonade stands and – in the process – learn how to set goals, develop a business plan, establish a budget, seek investors, provide customer service, and give back to the community. PotashCorp has partnered with the W. Brett Wilson Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence to present Lemonade Day in Saskatchewan on May 1.

“We couldn’t have done it without PotashCorp,” said Jessica Richard, Project Director for PotashCorp Lemonade Day Saskatchewan. “Our goal is to build confidence and self-esteem in kids and empower them to become healthy, contributing members of society as business leaders, social advocates, volunteers and forward-thinking citizens of tomorrow. We are grateful that PotashCorp has come on board to help us make it happen.”

Students and their parents can register for Lemonade Day by contacting the Wilson Centre at (306) 966-8675 or emailing info@saskatchewan.lemonadeday.org.

Headquartered in Saskatchewan, Canada, PotashCorp is the world’s largest fertilizer company by capacity, producing the three primary crop nutrients – potash, phosphate and nitrogen.
