EA SPORTS predicts L.A. Galaxy will win 2011 MLS Supporters’ Shield

And the MLS Supporters’ Shield goes to … LA Galaxy! EA SPORTS™ today declared the winner of the upcoming 2011 MLS regular season using EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer 11 . EA simulated the entire 2011 MLS regular season, testing all 18 clubs under the same conditions they will face in the months ahead, and determined that the LA Galaxy will finish first overall in the 34-game regular season with a league record 79 points, posting a 24-7-3 win-draw-loss record. The 24 victories would equal the MLS record for wins in a season set by the Galaxy in 1998.

EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer 11 also predicted that striker Luke Rodgers, signed by the New York Red Bulls and entering his first MLS season, will win the 2011 Budweiser Golden Boot, awarded to the top goal scorer at the end of the regular season. EA SPORTS has predicted Rodgers will score 17 goals this season and combine with Thierry Henry to become the most dangerous duo in MLS. The pair scored a combined 27 goals in the simulated season. Other top forward combinations included LA’s Juan Pablo Angel and Chad Barrett (24 goals) and Real Salt Lake’s Alvaro Saborio and Fabian Espindola (22 goals).

The simulation was conducted using team rosters as of March 7.

Fans around the globe will compare these results with the real-world MLS season as it unfolds beginning March 15 when Seattle hosts LA at Qwest Field.
