AJC Statement to House Hearing on Radical Islam in U.S.

March 11, 2011 – Washington – AJC submitted in written testimony to the House Committee on Homeland Security Hearing on “The Extent of Radicalization in the Muslim Community and That Community’s Response.”

“We cannot afford to ignore the increasing threat of homegrown terrorism inspired by Islam extremist ideology and its continuing impact on our country,” said Yehudit Barsky, director of AJC’s Division on Middle East and International Terrorism.

“The recruitment of homegrown terrorists affects innocent Muslims first, but it ultimately affects us all. Even as we must be ever-vigilant against discrimination, we must also not hesitate to identify and confront the very real threat of an Islamic extremist ideology and the purveyors that imperils our nation’s security.”
