FLINT, Mich. -- The UAW welcomes the news of an additional shift being added to General Motors' Flint Assembly Plant.  The additional shift means about 750 jobs for the plant and increased production of GM's heavy-duty pickups.  Workers on layoff or with recall rights from other plants, including Orion, Lansing, Flint, Willow Run and Warren, will be offered jobs at the plant. 

"We are pleased that GM is adding jobs to the Flint plant.  These additional jobs are further evidence of the success of the domestic automotive industry after many in the country said it was dead.  When labor, government and business work together, it means a more secure future for American workers.  Considering that this additional volume could have been produced in Mexico, we are pleased that GM has chosen to invest in Flint.  These are good-paying jobs that will support many other jobs in the Flint community," said UAW Vice President Joe Ashton, who directs the union's General Motors Department. 

"Our members in the UAW and here at the Flint Assembly plant are proud to produce best-in-class cars and trucks.  Our products continue to win quality awards.  The Chevrolet Silverado, made here in Flint, was named Truck of the Year by Motor Trend magazine," said UAW Region 1C Director Norwood Jewell.  "We are excited about GM's commitment to increased production and additional jobs in Flint."

The GM Flint Assembly plant employs about 2,000 workers making Heavy-Duty Chevrolet and GMC Sierra Crew and Regular Cab Trucks, Light-Duty Chevrolet Silverado Crew and Regular Cab Trucks.  The workers are represented by UAW Local 598.
