Spending Cuts and the Debt Ceiling
I am opposed to raising the debt ceiling. We have raised it ten times in the past ten years, and each time Congress has failed to get to the heart of the problem: out-of-control federal spending. Instead of being serious about stopping our government’s spending addiction, we continue to rack up massive annual deficits. And during the first two years of the Obama Presidency those deficits have skyrocketed.
For the next two months, instead of simply debating the pros and cons of another debt ceiling increase, Washington needs to be serious about real cuts in spending. It’s time for each Member of Congress to offer a list of real cuts that can be put on the table for discussion and votes.
