This has been an incredible year for the Center for Food Safety, and our work protecting our farms, our food, and our environment from the potential hazards of genetically engineered (GMO) crops. As you know, in April we battled Monsanto in the U.S. Supreme Court – and were victorious in maintaining the ban on the planting and sale of GMO alfalfa. CFS won another major lawsuit against USDA, Monsanto, and a number of other biotech companies this August, and as a result of our victory the planting and sale of GMO sugar beets is now also illegal. And just this month, CFS was again victorious in the courts, as a federal judge ordered that GMO sugar beets that were illegally planted be destroyed. This was the first time ever that a court has ordered the destruction of a GMO crop.
