Senate Key Vote: No Ominbus Spending Package

Dear Senator,

On behalf of more than 1.5 million Americans for Prosperity (AFP) activists in all 50 states, I urge you to reject any attempt by Leader Reid to pass an omnibus spending package. The Lame Duck Congress should pass a clean continuing resolution until the 112th Congress can be seated and properly represent the will of the people, as expressed in the mid-term elections.

I urge you to vote No on any omnibus spending package that is offered in the waning days of the 111th Congress. AFP will rate any vote on an omnibus spending package in our congressional ratings.

When the House passes a continuing resolution and sends it to the Senate, Leader Reid must not attempt to amend the CR by inserting a massive omnibus spending package. While outgoing senators—both Democrat and Republican—undoubtedly want one last swipe at the Treasury, I urge you respect the widespread movement to curtail federal spending and reject any omnibus package.

The omnibus will likely be over a thousand pages and cost more than $1 trillion. The short timeframe at the end of the 111th Congress will prevent senators, their staff and the public from properly scrutinizing the package. By the time the wasteful and egregious earmarks, duplicative projects and special interest giveaways are discovered many of the lawmakers will no longer be in office. This is an unconscionable process that should not be allowed to move forward.

I urge you to reject any last minute omnibus spending package and to pass a clean continuing resolution. AFP will rate any vote on an omnibus in our congressional ratings.

Sincerely,

James Valvo
Director of Government Affairs
Americans for Prosperity
