IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn today concluded a one-day visit to India, where he met with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, and other senior officials. “We had cordial and useful discussions on a range of issues, including India’s impressive economic growth and steps that the Prime Minister has initiated on infrastructure and fiscal consolidation to further boost the growth momentum,” Strauss-Kahn said “We also discussed the importance of international cooperation, particularly in the context of the G20 process, to build and sustain a strong global recovery.” The Managing Director added that India was playing an important role in the G20 and he looked forward to working with the authorities on key global macroeconomic issues.

The Managing Director also participated in a roundtable discussion on India and the global recovery hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and chaired by FICCI President Mittal. Other distinguished panelists included Nandan Nilekani, Chairman, Unique Identification Authority of India; former Reserve Bank of India Governor Y.V.Reddy, and Chief Economic Advisor Kaushik Basu.
