New graphic novel explores global disaster, telecommunication meltdown

Scorched by Nicola O'Neill follows characters as they navigate through solar destruction, a corrupt government and betrayal to save the planet

SOUTHAMPTON, United Kingdom (MMD Newswire) September 15, 2010 -- Scorched by Nicola O'Neill presents a world in the not-so-distant future where natural catastrophes are on the rise, political deceit reigns and mankind is on the brink of destruction.

Inspired by a solar storm in 1989 that resulted in prolonged blackouts, O'Neill presents the graphic novel Scorched as a depiction of what life could be like if technology and communication failed. Scorched begins with a professor discovering a massive solar storm heading toward Earth. As global blackouts and telecommunication disintegration mar his efforts to inform the public, the professor tries to urge NASA and the government to take action. Meanwhile, ex-marine Douglas Hoffman learns of his brother's death on the International Space Station. Douglas is on a mission to uncover the truth behind his brother's death while also protecting a woman that may hold the key to the government's secrets.

Scorched intends to present a scenario in which the current population's reliance on technology backfires. O'Neill hopes to tap into the hype in the news and on the Internet of solar events occurring regularly in the atmosphere. If these solar events continue to build and gain momentum, the destruction of satellites could break down communication as humans now know it. Scorched aims to show its readers that dependence on technology to run civilization may cause us to take things for granted.

Scorched is available online at Amazon.com and other channels.
