Safety of Genetically Modified Salmon Questioned

"Frankenfish" coming to a store near you?

Sept. 14, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ -- The genetically modified salmon Alaska Senator Mark Begich dubbed "frankenfish" are one step closer to entering the food supply as the FDA has determined the fish, engineered by AquaBounty Technologies, are safe to eat.

However, Michael Hansen, senior scientist for Consumers Union, has called the research behind the fish as "sloppy," "misleading" and "woefully inadequate."

The "AquAdvantage" salmon would be the first GM animal to enter the US food supply and consumer groups are urging President Obama, to discontinue the approval process.
