Infrastructure & Utilities: Trimble Expands Software Line

June 11, 2010 (FinancialWire) — Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) has introduced its Quantm Desktop software for road alignment planning to complement its existing alignment planning system. The software is used to plan the building of roads.

The new software simultaneously considers construction costs, environmental restrictions, social constraints and legislative obligations, allowing infrastructure planners to examine various alternatives and select the most appropriate corridors for roads.

Trimble claims that, when compared to results using traditional industry best practice planning methods, the software can provide significant reductions in project planning time and cost for road projects.

The Quantm System has been used by road planners since 2000. The new Quantm Desktop software is aimed at planners of short distance projects such as local and regional roads, bypasses, ring roads and others.

Trimble said that the Quantm Desktop version has been optimized to take advantage of Quantm technology to process the data locally on the user's computer. The desktop version also allows the customer to use the software for multiple projects rather than on a project-by-project basis.

The Quantm Desktop software is currently available and supported in North America, Australia and New Zealand.

California-based Trimble offers technology used by field and mobile workers in businesses and government. The company’s solutions are focused on applications requiring position or location—including surveying, construction, agriculture, fleet and asset management, public safety and mapping.
