Marubeni to Construct Large Coal-Fired Thermal Power Plant in Vietnam
Jun 7, 2010 (PRN): Marubeni Corporation has been awarded a contract for construction of Nghi Son Coal Fired Thermal Power Plant with the total gross capacity of 600MW on 1st June 2010, from Vietnam Electricity ("EVN"), the largest Marubeni has constructed in Vietnam.
The contract is worth approximately 90 billion Japanese Yen (USD 990 million), supported by Japanese ODA Loan funded from Japanese Government through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) (1st Stage Loan Agreement: Approx. Japanese Yen 20 billion, signed in March 2007).
The scope of this contract includes engineering, procurement, delivery of the equipment and the construction and installation work, on a Full Turn-Key basis. Marubeni will procure Steam Turbines and Generators from Fuji Electric Systems and Boilers from Foster Wheeler, as main equipment, and the plant is expected to be commissioned in January 2014.
The plant will be equipped with highly efficient anthracite coal-fired boilers and flue gas desulfurization equipment, which makes the plant environmentally friendly.
The project is categorized as one of the most important projects in the Master Plan (long term power development plan established by Vietnamese Government) for the purpose of responding to increasing power demands in Vietnam, where significant economic growth is being achieved.
The project is located in Nghi Son district, coastal area of Central Vietnam, belonging to Thanh Hoa Province, and is going to be EVN's first large-sized thermal power plant in Central Area of Vietnam.
In the Nghi Son district, several industrial plants, like large capacity oil refinery plant, are planned to be constructed and by constructing the large-sized power plant with utilizing Japanese ODA Loan will greatly contribute to the development of infrastructure in this area.
Marubeni enjoys a successful record in power plant construction projects in Vietnam, having been awarded 9 projects before, and this project is Marubeni's 10th project in Vietnam. The total power generation capacity of Marubeni's supplied facilities in Vietnam exceeds 3,400MW, representing about 20 percents of Vietnam's total power generation capacity.
