PRESS DISPENSARY - Wednesday, Jun 02, 2010 - A new iPhone application (app) has been launched by RugbyScorer.com This free app is aimed at providing a fun and accurate means of scoring a rugby match where no scoreboard is present!

Thousands of matches are played every week around the world, particularly at grassroots and youth levels. These matches, generally spectated by parents, families and friends, will mostly be without the benefit of a pitchside scoreboard, and the spectators may not all be conversant to the methods of scoring in rugby - try (with/without conversion), penalty and drop goal!

Rugby Scorer - a free application compatible with Iphone, Ipod Touch and Ipad, provides a simple, fun and accurate way to both record the scores, time the match, and provide an immediately available match report that can then be emailed.

Coaches will appreciate the ability to record a match report without resorting to pen and paper.

Users can also record the players details and scorers, allocate a team shirt colour, and input the match location using the inbuilt Iphone GPS.

Using simple graphics, the app has been extensively tested across many types of matches, including seven-a-side tournaments. It allows 12 colour choices of shirts, plus stripes, team sizes up to 23 and match lengths from 7, then 10-40 minutes in 5 minute graduations. A "time off" feature is also present and a "reverse last score" in cases of decisions being over-ruled!

Rugby Scorer is the inspiration of a voluntary Community rugby manager. It was inspired by a match which was reaching cricket score levels, where most spectators had lost track of both the time and the score, and the match reporter's pencil had broken!

Searching Itunes, he realised that although there were rugby apps in existence no existing Iphone app catered for grassroots rugby and provided a satisfactory and fun way of recording a match.
