Security Technology: Fed Funding Helps Agencies Get COPsync Information Sharing Software
May 4, 2010 (FinancialWire) — COPsync, Inc. (OTCBB: COYN) said that five Texas law enforcement agencies, the Coke County Sheriff's Office, the Schleicher County Sheriff's Office, the city of Sonora Police Department, the Kimble County Sheriff's Office, the Mason County Sheriff's Office and the city of Seymour Police Department, were granted federal funding to implement the COPsync(tm) law enforcement information sharing technology under the Recovery Act – Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.
The COPsync technology will provide these agencies with the ability to bring them into compliance with federal mandates established by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security with respect to interoperability and information sharing.
By utilizing the COPsync software, law enforcement officers on the software network are able to view all activity generated on a particular subject or fugitive, even to the point of being able to view reports or citations. Any law enforcement officer on the COPsync network will be immediately alerted if an individual with whom that officer is in contact has been determined to be a safety threat, has an active warrant for their arrest, is listed as a runaway or otherwise flagged in the system. This information allows law enforcement officers to prepare and respond intelligently to a potential threat.
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system, from multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment, and justice information sharing initiatives.
