Mississippi School Ordered to Stop Segregation Practices

April 14, 2010 - A federal judge has ordered a Mississippi school district to stop its alleged practice of "clustering" students by race.

US District Judge Tom Lee ordered that the Walthall County School District "randomly assign students to classrooms at the Tylertown Elementary Schools through the use of a student management software program."

The school district stood accused of allowing some schools and classes to assign class groupings by race, allowing more than 300 students (mostly white) to transfer from their local, assigned schools to a predominantly white school.
